Colloquium: A Lecture Series Commences at Modi College

Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala in collaboration with College Alumni Association started a series of lectures about various disciplines of knowledge production. This series is designed to understand the inter-sectional nuances of different areas of learning. The first lecture of this series ‘Contemporary life style and emergence of man in Indian tradition’ was delivered by Dr. Jagbir Singh, renowned scholar and chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda.
Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the expert speaker and said that this colloquium is dedicated to developing intellectual dialogue about ideas and inter- disciplinary critical thinking which is the fundamental duty of an educational institution. Dr. Gurdeep Singh, head of the department of Punjabi explored the importance of the topic of this lecture. The speaker was formally introduced by Dr. Rupinder Sharma, head of department of Hindi.
In his lecture Dr. Jagbir Singh appreciated this initiative of the college and said that the search for knowledge and wisdom is the core of Indian civilization. He said that truth and reality are the foundation of our religions, traditions and heritage. He elaborated the teachings and texts written by different Indian gurus, saints and intellectuals of ancient and medieval India and said that according to Indian religions, integrity and empathy is the base which defines the conditions of being a good human being. He said that the contemporary human being is living in an illusion and is unable to interpret the truth or realities.
The vote of thanks was presented by Vice Principal Prof. Shailendra Sidhu. Around 300 teachers and students from various educational institutes attended this lecture.

ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕਾਲਜ ਅਲੂਮਨੀ ਐਂਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਬੌਧਿਕਤਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਧਰਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਇੱਕ ਖਾਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਲੜ੍ਹੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਇਹ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ-ਲੜ੍ਹੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਈ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਸੀ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਤੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਦਵੰਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਅੱਜ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਡਾ.ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪ੍ਰਬੁੱਧ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਸਲਰ, ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਬੰਿਠੰਡਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ.ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ -ਲੜ੍ਹੀ ਰਾਹੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੌਧਿਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਲੋਚਨਾਤਮਿਕ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਏ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਦਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢਲਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਡਾ.ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ, ਮੁਖੀ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਮਹਤੱਤਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ।ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਰਸਮੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਡਾ.ਰੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਮੁਖੀ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਿਤ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਡਾ. ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸੱਭਿਅਤਾ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਗਿਆਨ-ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਇਰਦ-ਗਿਰਦ ਘੁੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ।ੳਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਗਿਆਨ-ਪ੍ਰੀਕਿਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਤਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੱਚ ਤੇ ਯਥਾਰਥ ਸਾਡੀ ਪੰਰਪਰਾ, ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਚੂਲ ਹੈ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਤੇ ਮੱਧਕਾਲੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਰਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਿਆ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਫਲਸਫੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਧਰਮ, ਸੰਤੋਖ ਅਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਤੇ ਖੜਾ੍ਹ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਢਾਂਚਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਦਰਾਂ-ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਨੁੰ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇੱਕ ਭਰਮ ਜਾਂ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਹਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ 300 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਕੀਤੀ।ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਪ੍ਰੋ.ਸ਼ੈਲੇਦਰਾ ਸਿੰਧੂ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।
